About the role

We’re excited to be recruiting for a Senior Policy Advisor – Supply Chains to join WWF-UK’s Policy Directorate and help shape policy solutions that support sustainable agricultural supply chains and protect nature.

The Policy team works closely with colleagues across advocacy, conservation and science to bridge the gap between the latest evidence and what can be delivered politically in the UK and internationally. The team develops and advances policy solutions to some of the most complex global challenges, using policy expertise, strong analysis and political insight to influence governments, businesses and international institutions.

This role sits within the Supply Chains team, where WWF-UK brings its long-standing expertise in global Agri-commodity supply chains to design and build the case for public policy that supports sustainable production and sourcing. A core focus of the role is developing policy solutions that help end deforestation and avoid offshoring environmental impacts while supporting resilient food systems, thriving farming communities and nature restoration at home and abroad.

Working closely with colleagues across the WWF network and external partners, you will contribute to the development and delivery of policy solutions that leverage the influence of the UK and other major consumer markets. This includes promoting Core Environmental Standards in trade and supporting policy discussions that affect agricultural production in tropical forest regions and engaging with policy dynamics involving key markets such as the EU and China.

You will play an important role in analysing policy opportunities, developing evidence-based recommendations and engaging with stakeholders across government, business and civil society to help shape and influence policy development. The role also involves working collaboratively with WWF teams across different regions and disciplines to ensure policy approaches deliver meaningful outcomes for climate, nature and people.

Skills and experience

You’ll bring the following skills and experience to succeed in this role:

Essential

1. Demonstrable experience of policy development, including contributing to or leading policy design, analysis or implementation
2. Strong knowledge of Agri-commodity supply chains policy and experience in one or more related areas such as agriculture, land use or deforestation, food systems, climate policy, biodiversity and nature restoration, economics, fisheries or trade
3. Understanding of how policy is developed and influenced within and beyond government, including the relationship between policy processes and political decision-making
4. Experience engaging with and influencing stakeholders, including policymakers, technical experts and partner organisations
5. Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret evidence and develop practical policy solutions
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to a range of audiences
7. Experience producing reports, briefings or technical documents to support policy development and advocacy
8. Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with international partners
9. Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage complex programmes of work involving multiple stakeholders
10. Commitment to equitable, diverse and inclusive approaches to policy development

Desirable

11. Experience working on policy related to tropical forest regions, global supply chains or international commodity production
12. Understanding of the international policy landscape and how UK policy interacts with global policy processes
13. Experience working within international organisations, networks or partnerships
14. Experience leading or contributing to the development of fundraising or grant proposals
15. Experience managing research projects, commissioning consultants or managing budgets
16. Language skills in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Mandarin or Cantonese

What we offer

We believe in rewarding our team with more than just a salary. Here’s what you can expect:

17. Annual leave starting at 26 days a year, rising one day each year to 31 days plus bank holidays
18. Flexible working options, to support your work life balance
19. 7.5% employer contribution to pension, rising to 10% with employee contribution
