Research and Development Support Officer

The closing date is 15 July 2025

THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO MATERNITY COVER

The post holder will support the R&D) team in delivering an efficient, high-quality service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, while meeting the internal and external requirements of the procedures, frameworks and legislation governing the research process and Health and Care Research Wales key performance indicators and metrics.

The post holder will be responsible for maintaining the Local Process Management System and associated databases, ensuring the timely upload of project information to include study recruitment figures and monitoring recruitment to time and target. The post holder will support the R&D team with the processing of research passport applications to ensure that the appropriate checks are undertaken and the relevant letters of access or honorary contracts are issued. The post holder will also be expected to request and collect project updates throughout the duration of the study and detail findings on the research and development web page.

The post holder will be expected to have excellent organisational and time management skills to support the delivery of an efficient and high-quality service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Excellent communication skills are also required as the post holder will liaise with a number of internal and external stakeholders.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Research and Development Team in delivering an efficient, high-quality service to researchers across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, while meeting the internal and external requirements of the procedures, frameworks and legislation governing the research process and the Division for Social Care and Health Research (DSCHR) key performance indicators and metrics.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Person Specification


Education/Qualifications /Training

* HNC or equivalent demonstrable level of skills, knowledge and experience
* Good standard of education (5 GCSEs or above)
* IT Qualification
* Familiarity with medical terminology
* Familiarity with NHS Clinical systems and information processes


Experience

* Prioritisation of work and delivery to challenging deadlines
* Effective and efficient electronic diary management
* Managing and developing office systems
* Handling highly confidential and sensitive information


Skills

* Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience of building and maintaining professional relationships
* Excellent written and communication skills with experience of dealing with sensitive and complex situations in an appropriate manner
* Ability to assimilate verbal information and translate into accurate written notes
* Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively and deliver results on time, meeting strict deadlines, and work under pressure
* Ability to make full use of IT to facilitate e-working, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ECDL level 1
* RSA III or equivalent demonstrable experience of typing
* Analytical and numeracy skills
* Flexible approach to working
* Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above


Knowledge

* Understanding of confidentiality issues
* Knowledge of contractual requirements pertaining to research and development both commercial and non-commercial
* Knowledge of research management and governance issues within secondary care
* A working knowledge of the conduct and management of research in primary and secondary care

* Requires advanced keyboard skills with a high degree of accuracy including Microsoft Office, Excel and Microsoft Project

* Able to concentrate for long periods

* Willingness to undergo development
