Commercial Research Delivery Centre Manager

A unique opportunity to spearhead the South London NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) with Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust (GSTT) as the hub and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) and Oxleas NHS Trust (Oxleas) as the spokes.
The funding for the 21 CRDCs and the CRDC Network was part of the £400M invested by industry into the Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing, Access and Growth (VPAG). VPAG is a five‑year agreement (2024-2028) between the UK government, NHS, and the pharmaceutical industry to cap branded medicine expenditure and ensure patient access to new treatments.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced, strategically minded and goal‑orientated Senior Research Manager to lead the South London NIHR CRDC and grow the portfolio of commercial research delivered across GSTT, LGT and Oxleas.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for managing the GSTT hub and embedding best‑practice management and delivery of commercial research into the CRDC LGT and Oxleas NHS Trust spokes, supporting the existing and dedicated CRDC staff in delivering a growing portfolio of commercial research.
The post holder will travel to and work within multiple clinical sites across South London, primarily at GSTT hub (Guy's Hospital, SE1 9RT) or spokes.
Job responsibilities
Strategic and Centre Management
* Develop, implement and review the South London NIHR CRDC strategy in conjunction with the CRDC director and deputy directors.
* Act as an ambassador for the South London CRDC locally and nationally.
* Oversee commercial research delivery at the Hub site, ensuring a financially sustainable portfolio.
* Provide operational oversight of infrastructure and quality management in collaboration with R&D trial delivery teams.
* Support research leadership at LGT and Oxleas in building capability for commercial research.
Business Planning and Budget Management
* Lead the development of a robust financial plan and cost recovery system for the CRDC hub and spoke sites.
* Manage the CRDC hub and spoke budgets, ensuring income capture and adherence to budget plans.
* Identify savings and cost reductions in partnership with financial analysts.
* Define and develop infrastructure required to deliver the full portfolio of studies.
* Establish processes with the KHP Clinical Trials Office for costing and review of trials.
* Ensure resources are in place for local delivery of portfolio studies.
* Develop key performance indicators and metrics for accurate reporting to CRDC Directors, NHS management, and NIHR.
* Compile reporting and performance documents for NIHR award.
* Oversee all aspects of the CRDC portfolio with focus on time to target delivery.
* Support negotiation with spoke sites regarding trial requirements.
Staff Management and Leadership
* Act as line manager for the Business Development Manager and ensure professional and personal development through effective appraisals.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Master's degree qualification or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
Knowledge and Experience
* Significant experience of clinical research management, including planning, coordination, and conduct of clinical research studies.
* Expert understanding of the research arena and its changing environment.
* Knowledge and experience of NCVR.
* Commercial research experience either in pharma or the NHS.
Skills & Abilities
* Proven professional strategic leadership skills.
* Ability to analyse and interpret highly complex information and make judgments regarding complex management issues.
* Ability to work independently and lead and facilitate new initiatives/change.
* Senior management of NHS‑based research infrastructure or research delivery services.

Salary
£75,328 to £86,114 a year inclusive of H.C.A.
