The Post

We are seeking to appoint a committed full-time (10 PA) Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal Pathologist to join our experienced and highly motivated team. This post will include perinatal and coroner's post-mortem pathology, placental pathology, and routine paediatric surgical pathology.


Main responsibilities

* Participation in the perinatal and hospital-consented autopsy service.
* Participation in the coroner's autopsy service.
* Reporting placentas.
* Reporting routine paediatric surgical pathology, including gastrointestinal biopsies.
* Sub specialist reporting may be required to meet the needs of the department.
* Contribution to the paediatric oncology/neuro-oncology service.
* Involvement in relevant clinicopathological meetings and MDTs.
* Contribution to the training and supervision of junior medical staff.

HM Coroner Post-mortems can be undertaken within or outside the job plan and this can be discussed based on service needs at the time of the appointment, expertise and interests of the appointee.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training


Essential

* MB ChB or equivalent
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants who are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* FRCPath or equivalent


Desirable

* MD, PhD or other higher degree


Teaching and Audit


Essential

* Experience of Audit in Cellular pathology
* Teaching of junior medical staff


Desirable

* Teaching of medical students
* Experience of supervision of ST2+ level trainees including workplace-based assessment and MSF
* Trained Clinical Supervisor
* Trained Educational Supervisor


Academic Achievements and Research


Desirable

* Publications in recognised Pathological and Clinical Journals
* Specialist interest in areas of Cellular pathology complementary to other consultants in the departments
* Research projects relating to the specialist area


Interpersonal / Professional Skills


Essential

* Organisational skills
* Communication skills
* Leadership skills


Desirable

* Involvement in service development and/or quality improvement processes
