We are seeking to appoint someone with the passion and enthusiasm to join our Design Technology Department as a Technician for 15 hours per week, term time only. Design Technology (DT) covers several subjects, including resistant materials (woodwork), engineering and design. Ideally, we would like someone to work the following times, but can be flexible:
Monday, Wednesday & Friday - 8am - 1pm
JOB PURPOSE
To provide technical support to the Design Technology department to ensure the smooth running of practical lessons and to ensure all equipment is maintained. The main duties of the post include the support of teachers and students during practical lessons as well as the preparation of materials and equipment for Design Technology lessons. In addition to this the post holder would be responsible for the inspection and maintenance of equipment (or the organising of this).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Preparing materials for practical lessons.
2. Preparing and setting up classroom equipment.
3. Supporting pupils in lessons under the direction of the class teacher.
4. Ordering supplies and keeping a check on stock.
5. Providing administrative support as necessary.
6. Conducting periodic safety checks on equipment.
7. Cleaning equipment and areas after use.
8. Preparing and setting up classroom equipment for practical lessons based on teacher requirements. This will include some operation of machinery.
9. Preparing and set up of any equipment required within KS3 and KS4 lessons based on teacher requirements
10. During lessons, be available to support the teacher and assist with materials and demonstrations when needed.
11. At the end of lessons, clearing away and cleaning equipment and materials as required
12. Assisting pupils in the use of equipment including ICT systems in order to help them make progress.
13. To provide support for the teacher during practical lessons this will include advising students on safety aspects of particular practical work.
14. Work as part of a team within the Design and Technology Department assisting each other as and when required
15. Identifying when supplies are running low and ordering new stock as required.
16. Checking, recording and storing supplies when received at school.
Maintenance and care of stock and equipment
17. To ensure that the Design Technology rooms and equipment are kept clean and tidy and that all room safety regulations are met, including checking equipment for safety and maintaining tools, cleaning and sterilizing equipment
18. Maintain machinery and equipment within resistant materials, textiles and food.
19. Log issues with the site team in a timely manner and ensure that safety checks are conducted in line with Health and Safety protocol and policies.
20. Ensure that all equipment is accounted for, in the correct place and replaced where necessary.
21. Carrying out photocopying of resources as requested.
22. Assisting with preparation of departmental documentation.
23. Assisting with preparation of display of students’ work.
24. Providing support and expertise to other departments and whole school events/displays when requested.
25. To support the department during Open Evening each year
