The Audio-Visual Support Service is a central university service providing bespoke AV Support, Design and Consultancy services to the entire collegiate university.

About the Role
The role involves managing AV Technicians within the AV Support Service, supporting recruitment, training, and performance to ensure effective and confident operation of AV systems. It includes providing 2nd and 3rd line AV support across multiple sites, acting as a key escalation point for technical issues, and maintaining strong working relationships with departments such as University Administration, Estates, and IT Services.
The postholder is responsible for on-site technical support, coordinating contingency plans for AV service continuity, including frontline responses and day to day support issue resolution. The postholder will have experience of managing AV/IT activities in busy, changing environments and have good problem-solving skills. They must stay current with industry best practices and comply with all relevant health, safety, and financial regulations, ensuring all AV operations align with University policies and legislative standards.
Additional duties include occasional out-of-hours work, manual handling when needed, and participating in relevant University AV and IT groups. The role also involves completing required training, attending appraisals, and fulfilling other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.
About You
Essential:
• BTEC/NVQ level qualification (or equivalent) with strong AV/IT training and experience.
• Proven experience in team leadership, motivation, and delivering excellent customer service and technical support.
• Strong line management skills, including goal setting, delegation, and performance tracking.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; calm and professional under pressure.
• Strong administrative skills: time management, report writing, record keeping, and stakeholder updates.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills; able to work independently and within a team.
• In-depth knowledge of AV technologies for presentations, lecture capture, and broadcasting, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Desirable:
• Knowledge of IT systems, operating systems, networking, and wireless technologies; skilled in AV/IT troubleshooting.
• Experience in academic or similar environments, providing technical support and customer service.
• Experience supporting both virtual and in-person event delivery.
