About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Bid Lead to join our Pre-construction team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in securing strategic business opportunities and supporting the delivery of high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK.
What you'll be doing
As an Assistant Bid Lead, you'll support and lead elements of the Pre-construction process, working closely with internal teams and strategic customers. Your responsibilities will include:
* Reviewing enquiry documents and preparing internal briefings
* Supporting gated lifecycle decisions (Stages 1-4)
* Developing Pre-construction delivery strategies and programmes
* Coordinating input from technical, commercial, and operational teams
* Managing document control and risk registers
* Leading site visits and liaising with the supply chain
* Preparing and submitting Pre-construction deliverables
* Participating in strategy, review, and handover meetings
You'll also be developing your skills to eventually take full ownership of bid leadership tasks, including:
* Estimating and pricing using Candy software
* Preparing tender programmes and risk schedules
* Drafting methodology statements and proposal letters
A good understanding of construction techniques and standards, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office essential; AutoCAD and MS Project desirable) are required. A proactive attitude and a desire for continuous development, along with the ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines, are essential.
