Job Description
The Humanities Teacher delivers high-quality education in humanities subjects, including history, geography, and social studies, to students within the designated age range. The role involves planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons that meet curriculum requirements and promote critical thinking and understanding of human society and culture. The postholder assesses and monitors student progress, provides constructive feedback, and supports students’ academic and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver stimulating and effective humanities lessons in accordance with the national curriculum and school policies.
* Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
* Assess and record student progress regularly, providing timely feedback to support learning and development.
* Prepare and administer assessments, assignments, and examinations relevant to the humanities curriculum.
* Maintain accurate records of attendance, behaviour, and academic performance in line with school requirements.
* Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater for different learning styles and abilities.
* Support students in developing critical thinking, analytical skills, and an understanding of historical and geographical contexts.
* Contribute to the development of humanities schemes of work and curriculum planning.
* Participate in departmental and whole-school meetings, professional development, and training sessions.
* Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress and welfare as required.
* Promote safeguarding and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure student safety and wellbeing.
Required Qualifications
* Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant humanities subject such as history, geography, or social sciences.
Education and Experience
* Experience teaching humanities subjects in a secondary school setting is preferred but not essential.
* Familiarity with the national curriculum and assessment frameworks for humanities.
* Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering effective lessons that engage and motivate students.
Knowledge and Skills
* Strong subject knowledge in humanities disciplines.
* Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
* Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different learning needs and abilities.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and parents.
* Proficient in the use of educational technology and digital teaching tools.
* Strong commitment to inclusive education and promoting equality and diversity.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.
Preferred Qualifications
* Postgraduate qualification or further professional development in education or humanities.
* Experience with curriculum development and assessment design.
* Knowledge of current educational trends and pedagogical approaches in humanities teaching.
Working Conditions
* The role requires full-time commitment during normal school hours, with occasional participation in after-school activities or meetings.
* The working environment is classroom-based with access to teaching resources and facilities.
* The postholder must adhere to school policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and equal opportunities.
* There may be a requirement to participate in school events and contribute to the wider school community.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
