Overview
We’re looking for a confident, motivated and committed Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Support Officer to help residents and local businesses upgrade and future-proof the energy performance of their homes and buildings.
You’ll play a key role in supporting Sunderland City Council’s regeneration and sustainability plans and associated Local Authority-led retrofit programmes.
You’ll be guiding households and businesses through their retrofit options and providing administrative and funding compliance processes for Local Authority-led retrofit programmes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, understands the opportunities and challenges of the retrofit sector and appreciates the vital importance of providing robust administrative and process support to make a real difference to local homes, businesses and communities.
Responsibilities
* Providing guidance to residents and businesses on energy efficiency measures retrofit options, and Local Authority-led grant schemes.
* Providing administrative support for the delivery of local retrofit programmes, maintaining detailed and accurate records, monitoring progress, and contributing to project reporting requirements.
* Coordinating project milestones such as site visits and partner meetings and grant funding offers.
* Helping residents and businesses navigate the end to end retrofit journey—from initial enquiry to installation and aftercare.
* Working closely with internal teams, external partners, businesses, installers, and community organisations to ensure smooth programme delivery.
* Promoting energy efficiency initiatives through community/business events, outreach sessions, and digital channels.
* Ensuring all advice and activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and safeguarding requirements.
About You
We’re looking for someone who brings a mix of technical understanding, strong administrative and people skills. You should also be comfortable learning about retrofit measures and explaining them in a clear, friendly way.
* Level 2 qualification and ongoing commitment to work-towards Retrofit Assessor practitioner level including CPD.
* A keen interest in energy efficiency, the principles of retrofit and low carbon technologies.
* Experience in a customer facing, advisory and administrative support role.
* Strong communications skills and the ability to build trust with residents and businesses.
* Good organisational skills and the ability to administer project processes for multiple applications.
* A proactive, solution-focused approach and a commitment to delivering high quality service.
* Confidence working with data, digital tools, and reporting systems.
