SEN Teaching Assistant – Teaching Personnel

Location: Bury
Contract: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Start: ASAP

About the Role

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist primary school in Bury that supports children with a wide range of complex needs, including PMLD, severe and profound learning difficulties, autism, sensory processing needs, communication difficulties, and significant medical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

Support pupils with complex learning, physical, and communication needs in both classroom and sensory-based environments.
Assist with tailored learning activities, visual supports, and differentiated resources under the guidance of the class teacher.
Provide 1:1 and small‑group support, ensuring pupils remain engaged, regulated, and safe throughout the school day.
Contribute to personal care routines, including feeding, toileting, mobility, and hygiene where required.
Support pupils using specialist tools and strategies (e.g., sensory equipment, PECs, communication aids, Makaton—training provided if needed).
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver consistent, structured SEN provision.
Promote emotional regulation, independence, and positive behaviour through a calm, patient, and supportive approach.
Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive environment that enables every pupil to thrive.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

A genuine passion for supporting children with complex or additional needs.
Experience working with SEN pupils—either in education, care, support work, or a related setting.
Adaptability, resilience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging or high‑needs situations.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
A child‑only enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one.
Eligibility to work in the UK and suitable professional references.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
