The job planning process will be carried out in partnership with the employer and employee. The post holder will report to The Head of the GI Unit and be managed within the Division of Cancer Services.
Tumour specific commitments will be conducted in the GI unit. Office space and secretarial support will be provided in the Sutton branch of the Royal Marsden. Resident doctors (HEE trainees and specialty registrars) also support the clinical and research activities of the GI team.
Main duties of the job
1. To supervise (clinical and educational supervision) doctors in training in the GI team and to undertake teaching as appropriate.
2. To attend the unit specific MDMs, clinics and departmental meetings
3. To lead Inpatient board rounds and reviews on the designated days
4. To participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team which includes Medical Oncologists, Clinical Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Therapists, Dietician, Social worker, Palliative Care and Counselling for patients and families.

5. Full GMC Registration and licence to practice
6. Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualifications
7. CCT in Medical Oncology or equivalent or within 6 months’ of obtaining it

8. Higher degree MD or PHD
Experience

9. Broad based experience in oncology, including systemic therapies
10. Significant experience in clinical and translational research
11. Significant interest and experience in the management of acute oncology patients

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
