Who are we
Kingsford Legal Centre (KLC) is a community legal centre providing free legal advice and assistance to our local community and to people across New South Wales. Our team of solicitors provides advice on matters such as domestic violence, credit and debt, victim’s compensation, criminal law, employment law, and discrimination law.
Why this role matters
The Community Outreach Lawyer/Clinical Supervisor will provide advice, casework and community legal education in areas of law relevant to our service with a focus on community outreaches and engagement with our local community. The role includes working within KLC’s Health Justice Partnership with Prince of Wales Hospital/Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service and existing/new community outreaches. Working primarily in the community to ensure access to KLC’s service, fostering relationships, pathways and collaborations with local community organisations across all aspects of KLC’s work. The role involves off‑site work and supports vulnerable people via HJP in hospital settings. The position works closely with UNSW Sydney law students teaching them in a best‑practice clinical legal education model. It reports to the Deputy/Director and has no direct reports.
Skills and Experience
* Eligible to practise as a solicitor New South Wales.
* Significant experience providing complex legal advice and casework, particularly in areas relevant to KLC clients such as criminal law, guardianship and general civil law.
* Experience acting as a nominated person and/or running legal matters independently.
* Experience working with clients with complex legal, social and health needs in outreach settings.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to manage and respond to stakeholder requests and manage relationships.
* Experience delivering and developing community legal education to a wide range of audiences with focus on plain English and accessibility.
* Ability to supervise students and volunteers in accordance with risk management practices.
* Significant experience working in a community legal centre or legal aid environment.
* Ability to provide legal assistance to disadvantaged clients, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with a disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
* Demonstrated commitment to social justice and knowledge of the legal assistance sector.
