About the Role and the Person
I am a 12 year old boy living with my family in the area of Glyncoch. I am non verbal, I have Autism and Pica. Pica is an eating disorder in which a person eats things not usually considered food. I love going to school and enjoy getting out in the community for social activities; this is the hardest part. At times I may hurt myself when frustrated, and my behaviour at night can be difficult for my mother and siblings, occasionally keeping them awake.
Purpose of Job
To provide me with the opportunity to access activities and develop my life skills; I would like to go out and have fun.
Place of Work
In and around the local area of Pontypridd.
Hours of Work
4 hours a week, 2:1 support (2 hours for each Personal Assistant).
Rate of Pay
£13.00 per hour with mileage paid at 0.40.
Tasks Involved
* Approaches such as redirecting—encouraging me to throw an item away instead of eating it.
* Keep a lookout for potentially dangerous pica items.
* Take me to places I enjoy away from my home.
* Ensure I am safe at all times.
Type of Person Required
* At least one of the PAs to drive with business class insurance.
* Someone who can work well within a team.
* Someone who respects the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
* Someone who is kind and empathetic.
* Preferably you will have experience working with children with additional needs.
* Someone who can include me in the planning of activities.
About the Job Details
Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. Wages will be paid monthly, with appropriate holiday pay. The post is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS (Police) Check, which will need to be carried out before employment can commence. The cost of this will be met by the employer (Local Authority). Checks will be carried out to ensure any applicant has the right to work in the UK.
