We are seeking an experienced pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Informatics Team in a full-time, permanent Band 8a role. The successful candidate will be based at the Royal London Hospital and will play a key role in the Trust-wide optimisation of clinical systems, ensuring efficiency and excellence in patient care.
The postholder will assist the Lead Pharmacist, Informatics with the development and optimisation of electronic prescribing within the Trust, in conjunction with the Head of IT Projects and the EPR team. They will assist with the implementation of any new digital medicines’ initiatives and support the pharmacy team in developing, validating and maintaining the wider pharmacy digital systems operated by the department.
They will ensure patient safety, security of access, system availability and that data accuracy is delivered by the system(s) and meets the requirements of the Trust, its patients and clinical staff.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will assist the Lead Pharmacist, Informatics with the development and optimisation of electronic prescribing within the Trust, in conjunction with the Head of IT Projects and the EPR team. They will assist with the implementation of any new digital medicines’ initiatives and support the pharmacy team in developing, validating, and maintaining the wider pharmacy digital systems operated by the department.
As a member of the pharmacy digital team, they will provide assurance of the use of electronic medicines management systems across the Trust, working with the Trust’s Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) and Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO).
They will ensure patient safety, security of access, system availability and that data accuracy is delivered by the system(s) and meets the requirements of the Trust, it’s patients and clinical staff.

The post holder might be required to work across the Trust at any time throughout the duration of his/her contract, which may entail travel and working at different hospital.

Essential criteria
1. Significant experience post registration in a hospital based post
2. Previous significant experience of working with clinical IT systems, including ePMA
3. Experience of working with clinicians and a proven track record for influencing change
Desirable criteria
4. Successful experience of managing & leading projects
5. Practical experience of setting up and configuring EPMA and associated functionality
6. Experience of successfully managing staff, performing appraisals and giving feedback
Skills
Essential criteria
7. Be able to provide highly complex ePMA information and impart knowledge to all levels of healthcare professionals (up to and including senior consultants/professor level)
8. Able to communicate complex information effectively in both written and verbal formats with staff and patients.
9. Demonstrates an ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload, to work under pressure and act with autonomy whilst retaining a sense of own capabilities and escalate when necessary
10. Demonstrates an ability to analyse and interpret data
11. Demonstrates an understanding of risk management
12. Assertive, diplomatic, persuasive with ability to negotiate.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
13. Knowledge of regulations and legislation relevant to EPMA
14. In depth knowledge of medicines administration processes and medicines management
15. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safe pharmacy practice including Medicines legislation and professional code of ethics
16. Knowledge of national digital strategy for the NHS
17. Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
18. Understands the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
19. Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
