Utilities Technician – Elec Bias

The Role
As a Multiskilled Shift Engineer with an electrical bias, you will be responsible for pro‑active and reactive maintenance, fault finding and repair of a wide range of building services and critical plant equipment on a highly regulated pharmaceutical site. Working as part of a dedicated shift team, you will ensure continuous and efficient operation of the site while adhering to strict GMP and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Electrical Maintenance & Fault Finding – Performing planned preventive maintenance, reactive maintenance, and fault diagnosis on electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, emergency systems, system panels, and Building Management Systems.
* Mechanical Maintenance – Carrying out maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems such as HVAC, pumps, motors, compressed air systems, and water treatment plant.
* Building Services – Maintaining and troubleshooting general building services including plumbing, drainage, and building systems.
* Compliance & Documentation – Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with relevant regulations, site procedures, and safety standards, while maintaining accurate maintenance records and completing necessary documentation.
* Shift Operations – Working as part of a shift team, responding to breakdowns and ensuring continuity across the site.
* Communication – Effectively communicating with the site team, client representatives, and other stakeholders regarding maintenance activities and site issues.
* Continuous Improvement – Identifying opportunities for improving efficiency and reliability of plant and equipment.
* Health & Safety – Adhering to all health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment.
* Escalation – Identifying and escalating complex issues to specialist teams or management as required.
Essential Requirements
* Recognised electrical apprenticeship or relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds 2365, NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation).
* Proven experience as a Multiskilled Shift Engineer or Electrical Maintenance Engineer in a commercial or industrial environment.
* Strong electrical fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
* Good understanding of mechanical systems and building services.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
* Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* A proactive, can‑do attitude with a strong focus on quality and attention to detail.
* Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern (days and nights).
Desirable
* Experience working within a pharmaceutical or other highly regulated environment (e.g., food, healthcare).
* Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).
* Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS).
* 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations.
* First Aid qualification.
