First, a bit about us.


Life Story helps companies tell their story better — through strategy, ideas and creative that makes them think differently about their business. We work across sectors. We do some of what agencies do, but we’re not a traditional agency. We don’t hold clients at arm’s length. We don’t have ‘creatives’ and ‘suits’. We just have people who are good at solving problems and making the work great.


Our founder Chris started Life Story after years of being a square peg in other people’s organisations — not understanding the politics, not playing the game, just wanting to focus on the work. Turns out that’s a pretty good foundation for a business. Clients keep coming back because we listen, we don’t overcomplicate things, and we consistently deliver work they’re proud of.


We’re small by design. For a long time it’s been Chris, a brilliant project manager, and a network of trusted freelancers. We’re growing — and you’ll be our first proper hire.



What is a Creative Strategist at Life Story?

Honestly, it’s a bit of everything — and that’s the point.


The work we do spans brand & creative strategy, thought leadership, sales enablement, ad. creative, film, presentations, collateral and whatever else our clients need to move forward. On any given week you might be drafting a brochure, briefing a designer, shaping a pitch deck, scripting a film, or sitting in a room with a client helping them think through a problem they’ve been stuck on for months.


What ties it all together isn’t a job description. It’s a way of thinking:


What is really being asked for here? How do we make this better — not just good, but great? What will it actually take to do that?


If that’s how your brain works, you’ll fit in fine.


More specifically, you’ll be:

•Leading on copy across clients and formats — thought leadership, campaigns, scripts, decks, sales content

•Taking a brief and running with it independently, to a standard that doesn’t need a lot of rework

•Briefing and creatively directing our freelance designers and production partners

•Building and shaping presentations that make clients sit up and think differently

•Being in the room with clients — workshops, presentations, and the conversations where listening matters as much as talking

•Helping shape scopes and project estimates as we grow



Who are we looking for?

Someone who's smart, creative, and nice to be around.


Someone who’s probably been good at their job for a while but has never quite fitted the mould. Who’s found office politics baffling. Who’s always cared more about making the work brilliant than about being seen to make it brilliant. Who isn’t precious about what’s in their job description — and who understands that in a small business, that’s a feature, not a bug.


Someone who learns by doing. Who comes in each day knowing they don’t have all the answers. Who listens first and talks second. Who’s willing to go the extra mile when it matters, knowing that we’ll notice and we’ll make it right.


Practically, you’ll need:

* Exceptional writing ability — clear, strategic, adaptable. This is your superpower.
* You have at least some B2B experience, as a lot of our clients are B2B
* Confidence working across formats — long-form content, short copy, decks, scripts, briefs
* Confidence talking about the business problem, not just the creative solution. T
* The ability to brief and direct designers and other creatives clearly and constructively
* Comfortable with clients - you'll be collaborating with clients continually. If you like to stay at the office and tell some account manager why the client should 'buy' your work, this is not the job for you.
* The ability to manage your own time across multiple projects without things falling through the cracks
* Genuine curiosity about AI and how to use it well — not a luddite, and not a lazy prompter


Experience with film scripting, ABM, or events is a bonus. Not essential if everything else fits.


What we’re offering.

* £45,000–55,000 pro rata depending on experience · 6-month FTC with a genuine view to extending or going permanent
* 25 days holiday
* Apple hardware
* Hybrid working. Unless you live in Yorkshire, you'll be remote for a lot of the time; but some face-to-face time matters to us, so you should be willing and able to travel for that. You should also be prepared to travel across the UK and potentially abroad too for meetings, workshops and shoots


Practicalities

* We're advertising this as a full-time position, but we could consider ~80% full-time equivalent for a great candidate who needs / wants more flexibility
* We don't need you to be in the office the whole time, but some face-time is important so you'd need to be prepared to travel for meetings with us and with clients - UK-wide, and possibly further afield.


The last word.

This isn’t a job for everyone. There’s no big team to hide behind, no defined lane to stay in, and nobody to pick up your slack. The work is real, the clients are demanding, and the standards are high.
