Your new companyYou'll be working for a large UK-based infrastructure services provider that supports both public and private sector clients. The organisation focusses on maintaining and improving essential assets such as roads, transport networks, utilities, and public spaces. It delivers a mix of engineering, consulting, and operational services, often involved in long-term projects that aim to enhance communities and keep vital services running efficiently and sustainably.Your new roleYou will act as the Named Ecologist, leading on protected species licencing with a focus on hazel dormouse mitigation. This will involve managing the licence throughout its life cycle, including submissions to the relevant regulatory bodies, project management responsibilities, and ensuring compliance with licence conditions. You will oversee monitoring programmes, reporting requirements, and coordinate with key stakeholders through regular meetings.The role will also include Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) duties where required, ensuring works are undertaken in line with ecological constraints and mitigation measures. You may be supported by an assistant ecologist and will work closely with internal teams to deliver monitoring and survey programmes. In addition, you may be required to facilitate safe access to operational environments when necessary.What you'll need to succeed
* Minimum D2 level ecologist with at least 4 years' relevant experience
* PTS / Own PPE / specialist equipment is desirable.
* Your own driving licence and vehicle
* Proven experience working on protected species licences, particularly hazel dormouse mitigation
* Experience acting as a Named Ecologist and/or Accredited Agent on mitigation licences
* Relevant academic qualification (e.g. degree or Master's in ecology or a related field)
* Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation and licencing requirements
* Ability to produce accurate reports and ensure compliance with licence conditions
