The Technical Claims Unit (TCU) is a team of highly specialised technical claims managers dealing with the most complex and high value clinical negligence and personal injury claims against the NHS in England. The team acts as a point of referral for the wider claims teams to advise on strategy and decision making in these very difficult cases.
Referrals may relate to seven figure birth injury claims, complex legal issues including illegality, wrongful birth, sensitive matters relating to contributory negligence or proposals to resile from admissions, cases involving surveillance and fraud, the investigation and management of group litigation and related concerns and much more.
What do the current Technical Claims Managers say:
“No day is the same in TCU; we see the length and breadth of claims from across the NHS and are very much at the forefront in shaping the approach to dealing with these highly complex matters. TCU is a close-knit team, highly skilled and experienced. As a TCM, I also have the opportunity to provide training and mentoring to colleagues and am involved in a number of projects both technical and operational. NHSR lives and breathes its PEER values and I am proud to be a part of it, helping to achieve its strategic priorities as a member of TCU.”
“Working in the TCU provides a consistent exposure to novel, high value and/or complex claims across our indemnity schemes. The work is infinitely varied, challenging and interesting. It involves working with and learning from colleagues who are genuine experts with an impressive depth of knowledge and experience across all aspects of claims management.”
