Electrical Engineer – Solar & BESS Delivery
Remote (Southern UK Projects) | 1 day on-site/office every two weeks
Offices: London | Durham | Edinburgh
£550 - £650 per day DOE
Contract Opportunity - 12 month renewable
Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer looking to play a key role in delivering large-scale renewable energy projects across the UK?
We're supporting a leading renewable energy organisation seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the construction and commissioning of utility-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects.
With projects typically around 50MW and several at DCO / 500MW scale, this is an opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure that will directly contribute to the UK's Net Zero ambitions.
The Opportunity
You'll be involved throughout the construction and commissioning lifecycle, acting as a technical leader and role model — identifying safety improvements, driving engineering efficiency, and ensuring delivery to statutory, regulatory, and company standards.
Most projects are based in the Southern UK, typically:
* 33kV grid connections
* Some 132kV connections
* Utility-scale Solar & BESS developments
You'll support multiple projects concurrently, working closely with delivery, design, and contractor teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide electrical engineering oversight across Solar, Storage & Private Wire projects
* Review and assure electrical designs, schematics, and specifications
* Ensure compliance with statutory, Grid Code and regulatory standards
* Support main equipment packages and manage interfaces with BoP contractors
* Undertake site visits, QA inspections, FATs and SATs
* Support commissioning and lead technical handover to operations
* Promote safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement across projects
* Consider risk, lifetime cost, and operational excellence in engineering decisions
What We're Looking For
Essential:
* Degree-qualified Electrical Engineer
* Strong MV/HV experience within generation or infrastructure environments
* Experience supporting construction & commissioning phases
* Ability to review and challenge electrical designs
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance
Desirable:
* Solar and/or BESS project experience
* 33kV and/or 132kV grid connection experience
* Grid Code, harmonics, protection or load flow study knowledge
* Commissioning and SCADA fault-finding experience
* Chartered Engineer status
* NEBOSH / IOSH
Why This Role?
* Work on major UK renewable infrastructure projects
* Support delivery of multi-MW and DCO-scale developments
* Flexible remote working model
* Exposure to cutting-edge battery and solar technologies
* Play a visible role in accelerating the UK's clean energy transition
If you're passionate about engineering excellence and want to help shape the future of renewable energy delivery in the UK, we'd love to hear from you.
