Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Care Support Worker to work within our Coronary Care/ Post Coronary Care/ Cath Lab Unit based at Russells Hall Hospital. The Care Support Worker role will support the registered nurses to deliver fundamental basic care to patients.
Previous experience of caring for people in a care worker role within hospital, community or residential / nursing home setting is required.
Main duties of the job
The Care Support Worker will:
* Be an integral member of the ward/department team working under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner
* Be responsible for providing care to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner
* Contribute to the maintenance of care environment and quality initiatives to enhance patient care
* Ensure that their practice adheres to policies, procedures and competencies.
* Act in a manner that upholds privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality of patients and colleagues

Person specification
Qualifications & Education
* Maths and English qualification – GCSE A-D or Functional Skills Level 1
* Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
* QCF/NVQ Level 2 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience
Knowledge and Training
* Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
* Prepared to undergo further training
* Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
Experience
* Able to assess patient’s health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care and referring/escalating to other staff as appropriate
* Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
* Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
* Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing and turning patients), equipment and stores
* Experience in a healthcare environment
Communication & Relationship Skills
* Evidence of effective communication skills including Verbal Written (legible handwriting) Non-verbal Compassion and respect
Planning & Organisational Skills
* Participation in flexible work patterns / shift working required to provide 24hr service to meet the needs of the service.
