About The Division
Mott MacDonald’s Water Consultancy Division is the centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering opportunities to work on diverse and technically challenging projects. The team provides services across the full project life‑cycle, from advisory and feasibility studies through design, construction support and site supervision.
Overview Of The Role
As a senior water‑quality modeller you will work in a large team of specialists, collaborating with engineers and asset planners to deliver services for UK and international clients. You will use both bespoke and industry‑standard hydrodynamic and water‑quality modelling packages, develop integrated river‑network and drainage models, examine natural processes influencing contaminant fate, build ad‑hoc assessment tools, and perform statistical analyses. The role offers opportunities to work across related disciplines such as hydrology, systems modelling, groundwater, flood modelling and computational fluid dynamics.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
* Core delivery of complex modelling projects, working with cross‑disciplinary experts and applying detailed numerical skills to environmental engineering projects.
* Analyse large datasets to identify patterns and relationships, providing insights and foresights to inform effective resolutions and interventions for positive social and environmental impacts. Assist with proposal writing and new business development through key technical inputs.
* Maintain client relationships and manage projects.
* Support, train and mentor junior colleagues where practicable.
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Relevant degree‑level qualifications (e.g., geography, mathematics, environmental sciences, civil engineering or related disciplines).
* Chartered with an appropriate professional body.
* Track record in successful delivery of SOAF, UPM and/or river modelling projects for UK water companies.
* Good understanding of hydrodynamics, sediments and water‑quality processes.
* Expertise in industry‑standard software such as InfoWorks and/or MIKE11.
* Willingness to innovate.
* Able to guide and mentor junior staff.
Desirable
* Coding skills and statistical foundations.
* Experience in source apportionment assessments, catchment management modelling or application of nature‑based solutions to tackle pollution.
