We are recruiting registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) to join a Functional Assessor team delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services in Lewes. This is a structured, assessment-based role offering a move away from hands-on clinical care into a predictable Monday to Friday, office hours position. The role is non-clinical and non-hands-on, focusing on assessment, communication, and report writing. Key details Salary: £45,300–£48,000 plus approval and performance-related bonus Location: Lewes assessment centre Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only Hybrid working: A mixture of working from home and in the local office No nights, weekends or shift work Full-time and part-time opportunities available Right to work in the UK required (sponsorship not available) Working pattern and training Full-time and part-time roles available Part-time options typically 3 to 4 days per week All roles require completion of a full-time training programme. This is a minimum of 9 weeks, but may be longer depending on individual progress or any periods of absence The role You will complete structured functional assessments across both PIP and WCA services, focusing on how health conditions affect daily living and work capability. Assessments are completed via: Telephone Video consultation Face-to-face (non-clinical setting) All appointments are pre-booked with time allocated per assessment. Typical workload: PIP: around 3 assessments per day WCA: around 4 to 6 assessments per day What you will do Carry out structured functional assessments using clinical judgement Review medical evidence and supporting documentation Produce clear, objective, evidence-based written reports Communicate professionally and empathetically throughout What you will not do Provide hands-on clinical care Prescribe or deliver treatment Make diagnoses Make benefit entitlement decisions Work nights, weekends or shifts Eligible profession Nurse (RGN / RMN / RNLD) – NMC registration required Essential criteria Minimum 12 months post-registration clinical experience Good communication and report writing skills Comfortable using IT systems Applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK.
