SIFT Clinical Tutor (Teaching Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynaecology)

The department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology are looking to recruit a Clinical tutor for a period of 12 months. This post will commence on 5th August 2026 until 4th August 2027 only. Any delays to the start date the length of contract will be adjusted accordingly. This is a 1 year post to facilitate clinical teaching in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to Swansea University graduate entry medical school students.

There may be scope for a further extension of 12 months subject to further funding being available from SIFT. Please note that all SIFT posts maximum tenure is 24 months.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to attend and teach in outpatient clinics, on ward rounds, labour ward and theatre sessions. In these clinical sessions the teaching registrar will undertake supervised teaching sessions for year 3 graduate entry medical students from Swansea University. The specified teaching clinics have reduced numbers of patients to facilitate additional time for teaching.

This is a full-time post 40 hours per week with no on call requirement.

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.

Mental Health and learning Disabilities services are provided both in hospital settings (Cefn Coed Hospital, Swansea Caswell clinic and Taith Newydd at Glanrhyd Bridgend) and other community settings.

We also have community hospital and primary care resource centres providing clinical services outside the main hospitals.

Swansea is Wales' second largest city and sits on the five-mile sweep of Swansea Bay. An ideal base for exploring South-West Wales, there is also much on offer for visitors in Swansea itself.

These are the current applicable pay scales; however, these may change upon implementation of the framework agreement for reform to the terms and conditions of service for resident doctors and dentists in Wales. Further details can be found at BMA+-+Framework+Agreement+Wales.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* MRCOG Part I
* ARCP outcome 1 or equivalent for ST2 demonstrable in application form


Experience

* Minimum of 2 years at ST level or equivalent in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
* Applicants must have worked in NHS for minimum of one year.
* Must be able to function at middle grade in O&G
* This post is suitable for candidates working at the level ST3-7. This role involves responsibilities consistent with resident doctors who have completed their ST1 & 2 years in O&G training within the NHS
* Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
* Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working
* Liaison with other agencies
* Teaching and training of post/undergraduate medical staff
* Evidence of participation in, progressing and completing audit
* Experience of research in O&G


Skills & Abilities

* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance

£47,946 to £74,328 a year per annum, pro rata
