Job Title: Youth and Community Worker

Location of post: NPTCBC Civic Centre, Port Talbot SA13 1PJ

Is this post a secondment? NO

Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces.

About the role:

We are currently looking for a committed and enthusiastic Youth & Community Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for – devising and delivering a range of activities to increase young people’s engagement and progression in their secondary education and to support the transition of young people from school into education, training or employment.

The main duties of the post;

  • To support young people leaving school to enter to access suitable post 16 education, training or employment opportunities.
  • To work in partnership with young people, colleagues and service providers to identify and address barriers that prevent young people from accessing support and advice.
  • To devise and deliver innovative and creative activities for young people.
  • To ensure that young people are involved in planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluating of work.
  • To work according to the principles of results based accountability.
  • To ensure the delivery of high-quality youth work by following and implementing the Service’s quality assurance procedures.
  • To inform line management of any concerns which may result in the implementation of Local Authority policies, such as child protection/safeguarding, grievances, complaints or disciplinary.
  • To attend and contribute to meetings and training programmes as required by the Youth Service.
  • To actively promote equality of opportunity and diversity in all aspects of service delivery in accordance with Local Authority policies and procedures on equal opportunities, ensuring services meet the needs of disadvantaged and minority groups, whilst challenging any attitudes or behaviour that are contrary to it.
  • To maintain effective management information systems to provide accurate reporting and monitoring of data and to work with the Youth Service and Cluster Managers to compile and produce any relevant reports.
  • To attend and participate in Performance Appraisals with the line manager in accordance with current arrangements for the supervision of staff.
  • To ensure that the Corporate Health and Safety Policy is adhered to and that suitable action is taken regarding any issues or hazards, including the risk assessment of activities, equipment and premises and reporting of accidents/ incidents.
  • To carry out other relevant associated duties as may arise from time to time in full accordance with the authority’s policies and procedures.
  • You will have experience in/of;

    working with young people between the ages of 11 – 25 in a variety of youth work settings.

    Experience of planning, managing and developing youth work.

    Experience of partnership working and knowledge of key stakeholders and other relevant agencies.

    To be able to build professional relationships with young people

    Facilitate young people learning, and their personal and social development.

    Enable young people to organise and take increasing responsibility for activities, events and projects.

    Plan, manage and develop Youth Work

    Support and develop a small team or project.

    Work in accordance with the principles and purposes of Youth Work in Wales.

    Ideally you will have;

    Must possess a minimum of 4 GCE/GCSEs (Grades A-C) or equivalent, which should include English Language.

    Nationally recognised qualification in Youth and Community Work or equivalent.

    EWC membership.
