Looking for a new challenge and professional development opportunity in the New Year? The Enteral Nutrition Team are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with experience in enteral tube feeding to join our existing Enteral Nutrition Team on secondment in a part time role for approximately a a 12 months.

The successful candidate will be working across the Guys and St Thomas’ hospitals as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe delivery of enteral tube feeding to adult patients.

This rewarding role will incorporate working part time across Monday to Friday providing specialist support for those receiving both enteral nutrition. You will be required to provide education and training to staff, patients and carers within this area, as well as troubleshooting tube complications. In addition to this you will be contributing to service development, policy review and audit.

The ideal candidate would have experience in insertion naso-gastric tubes as well as care and management of other enteral feeding tube. Candidates should also feel confident working independently as well as part of a team, while developing relationships across multiple disciplines.

Main duties of the job

Deliver safe, high-quality care to patients receiving enteral nutrition.
• Insert and manage naso-gastric feeding tubes; support with other enteral tubes .
• Provide education and training to staff, patients, and carers on enteral nutrition.
• Troubleshoot complications related to feeding tubes and nutrition support.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team across GSTT sites.
• Contribute to service development, including policy review, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support the implementation of best practice in nutritional care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Deliver specialist care to patients requiring enteral nutrition, including the insertion and management of feeding tubes.
• Act as a patient advocate, providing holistic support and empowering patients and carers to make informed choices.
• Lead on education and training, supporting staff, students, and carers with specialist knowledge and resources.
• Contribute to service development, policy review, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in research and evidence-based practice, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
• Provide leadership and clinical expertise, working within a multidisciplinary team and representing the service locally and nationally.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria

1. BCS/1st Degree in adult nursing/post graduate MSC in nursing

Desirable criteria

2. To have or be working towards non-medical assessment course

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria

3. Significant knowledge and experience in working with enteral feeding tubes and appropriate area of speciality
4. Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate level
5. Experience of working alongside dietitians and the wider MDT

Desirable criteria

6. Experience of teaching at local or national level
7. Experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care

Skills and abilitites

Essential criteria

8. Ability to work as part of a team and under pressure as an autonomous practitioner
9. Proven listening and counselling skills with the ability to manage complex situations and appropriately deliver sensitive and difficult outscomes
10. Experience of carrying out own and collaborative audit projects
11. Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and communication skills
12. Ability to conduct and evaluate own projects successfully
13. Demonstrates an understanding of the national agenda for the speciality, knowledge of quality standards, NICE recommendations and NSF
