The Company
An iconic, large-scale city centre hotel in Manchester with heritage features and a complex operational footprint. The Role
We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to take full ownership of the hotel’s maintenance and engineering function. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth, safe, and compliant operation of a demanding, high-profile property.
You will lead a team of six, including:
* 2 highly skilled Assistant Engineering Managers
* 4 General Maintenance Engineers (General, Plasterer, Painter & Tiler)
This is a strategic yet operational role, requiring strong organisation, technical expertise, and the ability to manage people, projects, contractors, and compliance within a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Full responsibility for all hotel maintenance operations
* Delivering and managing a robust PPM schedule
* Ensuring full statutory compliance across all systems
* Leading capital projects, refurbishments, and improvement works
* Managing external contractors and specialist suppliers
* Budget control, forecasting, and cost management
* Developing, coaching, and motivating a multi-disciplinary engineering team
* Working closely with senior hotel leadership to support operational excellence
* Maintaining heritage and complex building systems to the highest standards
About You
You will be:
* Strategic, organised, knowledgeable, and highly efficient
* An experienced engineering leader within hospitality or a similarly complex environment
* Comfortable operating in a challenging, high-pressure maintenance operation
* Confident managing large teams and multiple workstreams simultaneously
Essential Experience
* Proven experience as a Chief Engineer / Head of Engineering or similar senior role
* Background in a large-scale hotel, complex heritage property, or multi-property portfolio
* Strong people management experience is imperative
* Excellent knowledge of compliance, health & safety, and statutory requirements
