Overview
Lead Data Engineer or Data Architect at Made Tech. Responsible for establishing data strategies in central and local government, designing and implementing robust data platforms, and embedding data knowledge across delivery teams.
Responsibilities
* Define, shape and perfect data strategies in central and local government.
* Help public sector teams understand the value of their data and maximize its use.
* Establish yourself as a trusted advisor in data-driven approaches using public cloud services such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
* Contribute to recruitment efforts and take on line management responsibilities as part of employee growth focus.
Qualifications
* Proficiency in Git (including GitHub Actions) and ability to explain benefits of different branch strategies.
* Strong experience in IaC and ability to guide deployment of infrastructure into different environments.
* Knowledge of handling and transforming various data types (JSON, CSV, etc.) with Apache Spark, Databricks, or Hadoop.
* Good understanding of modern data system architectures (Data Warehouse, Data Lakes, Data Meshes).
* Ability to create data pipelines on a cloud environment and integrate error handling.
* Experience creating reusable libraries to encourage uniformity across pipelines.
* Ability to document and present end-to-end diagrams to explain a data processing system on a cloud environment.
* Some knowledge of diagramming frameworks (C4, UML, etc.).
* Enthusiasm for learning and self-development.
* Experience working on agile delivery-led projects and applying agile practices such as Scrum, XP, Kanban.
* Ownership of cloud infrastructure underpinning data systems through a DevOps approach.
* Design and implement efficient data transformation processes at scale, both batch and streaming use cases.
* Skilled Data Engineer who has delivered data platforms.
* Knowledge of SOLID, DRY, and TDD principles and how to implement them practically.
* Commercial mindset to grow accounts organically with senior stakeholders.
* Experience improving resilience by checking for software vulnerabilities and implementing testing strategies (unit, integration, data quality).
* Ability to advise on implementing a robust DevOps approach in a data project.
* Comfortable discussing necessary tools such as DataOps in areas like orchestration, data integration, and data analytics.
Desirable Experience
* Experience working at a technology consultancy.
* Experience with Docker and virtual environments as part of the development and CI/CD process.
* Experience gathering requirements from senior stakeholders and keeping them engaged.
* Experience working with a team of engineers using pair programming or mob programming.
* Experience working with data scientists to productionise advanced data deliverables such as machine learning models.
* Working knowledge of statistics.
* Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary digital and technology teams.
* Experience working within the public sector.

Security Clearance
The role requires eligibility for SC (security clearance) clearance, requiring five years’ UK residency, five years’ employment history (or full-time education), and no more than 30 consecutive days spent outside the UK in the last five years. Candidates who cannot meet these criteria will not be considered.
