The role
As a Safety, Health and Environmental Practitioner, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring our operations meet the highest standards of safety and environmental protection. This is a role that truly makes a difference - safeguarding people, assets and the environment while supporting projects critical to national security. You’ll join a proactive team working on the BN06 project, implementing strategic and operational SHE plans that shape the future of defence engineering.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
1. Provide expert advice on safe systems of work and risk assessments.
2. Support the development of practical and effective health, safety, and environmental practices.
3. Assist with audits and maintain compliance records.
4. Carry out workplace inspections and monitor policy implementation.
5. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to maintain ISO and ISO standards.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. Whilst OWP is not guaranteed; it involves a 4-week shift cycle consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. If you would like to know more about OWP please contact the Recruitment Team.
Please note that this position involves working in confined spaces. Candidates must be able to work comfortably and perform tasks in restricted spaces.
Essential experience of the Safety, Health and Environment Practitioner
6. Extensive SHE experience in a hazardous industry (e.g. construction).
7. Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and legislation.
8. Familiarity with ISO and ISO standards.
9. Basic understanding of nuclear site licence requirements.
10. Demonstrable passion for SHE excellence.
Qualifications for the Safety, Health and Environment Practitioner
11. Level 3 accredited Health and Safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate).
12. Ambition to achieve Chartered status with IOSH or similar.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
