Overview
The Finance Manager is responsible for the overall financial management of the School. The successful candidate will work with the Council of Management and the Head on all financial matters throughout the School, including but not limited to: advising on financial policy, preparing and reporting on annual budgets, monitoring income and expenditure, being responsible for the overall financial risk management of the School, payroll, and submitting VAT returns. The Finance Manager will line manage two Assistant Finance Managers, working together as a team on all financial matters. As part of the Upton Office Team, the successful candidate would also be required to help out with additional school responsibilities such as covering phones and reception as and when needed as well as school/staff events which could occur in evenings and at weekends. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, analytical and adaptable Finance Manager, with a strong attention to detail to join our outstanding Finance team working in a highly regarded Prep School with children aged 2 to 11 years.
Responsibilities
* Advise on financial policy and participate in financial decision making across the School.
* Prepare and report on annual budgets; monitor income and expenditure.
* Oversee overall financial risk management and payroll; submit VAT returns.
* Line manage two Assistant Finance Managers and collaborate on all financial matters.
* Support the Upton Office Team by covering phones and reception as needed and assisting with school/staff events (evenings/weekends).
Qualifications
* ACCA/CIMA qualification
* 3-5 years accountancy experience
* Previous experience of working in a busy Finance Team
* Previous experience of working in an independent school (desirable)
* Management experience
* Ability to input data accurately with excellent attention to detail
* Strong digital skills, specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
* Proactive in getting tasks done without being asked
* Excellent communication skills
* Able to work as part of a team and use your own initiative
* Commitment to the role and being an inspiration
* Positive, can-do attitude
* Willingness to meet challenges with enthusiasm and to contribute as a team member
