Role Overview
As an Apprentice Dental Nurse you will work closely with dentists and dental therapists, supporting the delivery of safe, high quality, patient‑centred dental care for individuals who need adaptable approaches and compassionate support. You will assist with day‑to‑day clinical duties, help each patient feel comfortable and understood, maintain excellent infection prevention and control standards, prepare clinical areas, support patients during treatment and assist the dental team in medical emergencies.
Alongside your practical learning you will complete apprenticeship training with Yeovil College, supported by experienced dental professionals, dedicated college assessors and regular one‑to‑one reviews. You will develop the skills, confidence and professionalism needed to qualify as a Dental Nurse and apply for General Dental Council registration.
Responsibilities
* Assist dentists and dental therapists with day‑to‑day clinical duties.
* Ensure each patient feels comfortable and understood, especially those who may feel overwhelmed by dental treatment.
* Maintain infection prevention and control standards.
* Prepare clinical areas and support patients during treatment.
* Assist the dental team in medical emergencies when required.
* Record and retrieve patient information on paper or electronic records as appropriate.
* Take instruction and direction, working effectively as part of a team.
Person Specification – Qualifications
* Maths and English GCSE grade C/4 or above, or Functional Skills level 2.

* Compassionate and exceptional interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with staff, patients, carers and relatives.
* Professional and patient‑focused approach, with excellent written and spoken English.
* High standards of written communication and ability to use email and internet.
* Ability to record and retrieve information on paper or electronic records.
* Must have appropriate transport to travel throughout the Trust.

Our Community Dental Service
We provide high quality, compassionate dental care to children and adults with additional needs and complex medical conditions. Many of our patients are unable to access high‑street dentistry and require extra time, reassurance and understanding.
