Balfour Beatty, in partnership with bp, has been selected to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. The role is Assistant Quantity Surveyor for the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing
Manage costs of the works and ensure commercial, legal and quality standards, supporting senior commercial team members. Engage and manage supply chain within your area, ensuring effective collaboration. A graduate QS is expected to follow structured training programmes to achieve RICS, ICES or CIOB qualifications.
Dimensions
* Financial: Manage all costs and income within your responsibility on building and civil engineering projects.
* Organisational: Depending on capability & experience, a direct report (Apprentice QS) may be assigned.
Interfaces
* Internal: Commercial and wider Project Team.
* External: Supply Chain and Customers.
Accountabilities
Governance
* Good knowledge of and adherence to the company's governance requirements.
Commercial Administration & Management
* Gather data & carry out research on current construction costs.
* Measure, record & value work supervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures.
* Seek out, locate and assemble pre‑ and post‑contract documentation.
* Understand and utilise weekly and monthly works programmes.
* Awareness of different programme formats.
* Use the company's ERP and digital systems.
* Collate cost and value information.
* Prepare cost reconciliation statements.
* Measure works and coordinate agreements with subcontractors.
Procurement
* Collect information required to specify procurement requirements.
* Record and document information including registration of interest.
* Understand the steps and documentation required.
Who we’re looking for
* BSc in Quantity Surveying or working towards.
* CSCS Card (Academically Qualified).
* Working towards professional membership from the RICS, ICES or CIOB.
