Field Service Engineer

This role is within ALAS Posture & Mobility Service based within Treforest Industrial Estate. The postholder works within the community repairing wheelchairs and will be provided with a UHB vehicle.
We are looking for two individuals who are self‑motivated, organised and team players. Successful candidates will need to be patient‑focused, ensuring the best service is provided to our service users. A clean driving licence is required as the role involves daily driving around South Wales. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent technical qualification is essential, as is the ability to use a range of engineering tools. Candidates must be flexible and committed to the role. Experience working with wheelchairs in a technical capacity and the wheelchair or related service is desirable.
Both full‑time posts run Monday - Friday, but due to the nature of the role, successful candidates will need to be part of the out‑of‑hours emergency repair service.
Main duties of the job
* Repair and adjust wheelchairs, including fitting of wheelchair components.
* Conduct visits to patients’ homes across South Wales; therefore a full driving licence and awareness of lone‑worker issues are required.
* Carry out administrative functions to support the clinical and technical team, including necessary administration, loading and unloading equipment, checking equipment prior to fittings and monitoring van stock.
* Be part of the out‑of‑hours emergency repair service.
* Assess and diagnose faults in posture and mobility equipment and undertake appropriate repairs in the community to ensure that the equipment is functional and safe for patient use.
* Carry out basic programming/diagnostics of powered wheelchairs.
* Demonstrate and adjust the setup of the wheelchair and accessories in the patient’s home or community or school, under the clinical guidance and direction of the Senior Clinician/Technician.
* Fit special accessories at the clinic or in the person’s home or residence or school within a specified range under instructions from senior clinical/technical staff.
* Be flexible with time management when providing an on‑call out‑of‑hours service as required.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Person Specification
* Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent technical qualification, or experience of working within a technical environment.
* Experience: Direct contact with people on a daily basis; willing to receive training; experience working with wheelchairs in a technical capacity; experience working with people with a disability.
* Skills: Ability to use a computer; ability to safely use a range of engineering tools, good practical abilities; qualification in practical skill(s).
* Special Knowledge: Working in a wheelchair or related service.
* Personal Qualities: Committed approach; adaptable; flexible to the service; good team player.
* Other: Full driving licence.
