Contracts Manager – Tunnelling
Location: South Region
Salary: £85,000 – £110,000 negotiable, plus car or car allowance.
Job Overview
Oversee all aspects of contracts management, compliance, and programme delivery on large‑scale civil engineering and tunnelling projects.
Responsibilities
* Lead contract negotiations, tender preparation, project proposals and client negotiations, ensuring contracts meet technical and legal standards.
* Manage construction schedules and budgets, addressing unexpected costs and ensuring project milestones are met.
* Attend site meetings and liaise with clients, subcontractors and project teams to maintain clear communication and role clarity.
* Promote SHEQ policies, conduct site safety visits and oversee accident investigations to maintain a safe working environment.
* Develop and implement health & safety initiatives, manage psychosocial risks and foster a safety‑first culture across operational teams.
* Make operational and financial decisions independently with a focus on risk mitigation and client satisfaction.
* Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, coordinating with technical, legal and operational teams.
Qualifications
* Minimum eight years of senior management experience in civil engineering contracting.
* Proven expertise in managing large‑scale civil projects, infrastructure and tunnelling contracts within the UK.
* Relevant UK qualifications such as NVQ Level 6, HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
* Strong knowledge of NEC, JCT or FIDIC contractual frameworks and legal documentation.
* Proficiency with project management and contract software such as Aconex, COINS or SAP.
* Demonstrable leadership and negotiation skills with a commitment to safety standards.
* Current UK driving licence for site visits and meetings.
