Overview
The Gynaecology Directorate is looking to appoint 2 full-time Consultant Subspecialists in Gynaecology Oncology. The successful candidate will join the Oncology Team, which consists of a Subspecialist Gynaecology Oncologist, Oncology Unit Level Lead, and a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists. The Oncology service is a specialist tertiary centre and currently provides services at Wolverhampton and Dudley.
The candidate is expected to be an active member of the gynaecological oncology team in clinic, the ward and operating theatres. Participation in the on-call Gynaecology rota is expected. Evidence of experience in advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and supra-radical surgery in gynaecological oncology would be highly desirable. The post will have 10 programmed activities (PAs) with potential for negotiation of additional PAs.
Main duties
* Provide clinical consultations for oncology patients at Wolverhampton and at tertiary centres.
* Provide surgical interventions for complex oncology cases.
* Partake in MDT meetings.
* In conjunction with consultants and senior colleagues, provide a service in gynaecological oncology.
* Play a full part in the out-of-hours on-call service for the department, including on-call for telephone advice and major incidents.
* With the existing consultants, maintain the department's regional reputation as a leading provider for robotic surgery in gynaecology oncology.

Job responsibilities

* Contribute to the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
* Take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.
Person Specification
Educational Qualifications
* Full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.
* On the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview.
* MRCOG
* Completed subspecialty training accreditation in gynaecological oncology or equivalent training.
Desirable
* Higher Medical Degree
Experience
* Essential: Competent in managing complex gynaecological oncology cases including open and minimally invasive approaches.
* Desirable: Experience in robotic surgery.
Research and Audit
* Essential: Evidence of audit/research and the implementation of change following the audit.
* Desirable: Relevant research published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Education and Teaching
* Evidence of contributing to departmental teaching programmes.
