Role overview

The post-holder will work as part of the Prison Psychological Therapies team within the wider Mental Health Team in HMP Shotts. The role involves assisting with various aspects of clinical work by delivering and supporting development of psychological interventions at the enhanced level of psychological practice, such as Safety and Stabilisation, Guided digital therapies, psychoeducational group sessions. The role will involve both indirect and direct clinical care under supervision. The post-holder will also assist with clinical administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics and development of audit and/or research projects. The post-holder will work independently according to a work plan agreed with the supervisor and within the overall framework of the Psychological Services policies and procedures. The post-holder will be part of the wider Forensic Clinical Psychology service and have opportunities for collaboration with other Psychological services. The post-holder will be line managed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Lead for Forensic Clinical Psychology Service. The post holder will have regular supervision and access to continuing professional development.


Location and organisation

NHS Lanarkshire

This role will be based in MH&LD within HMP Shotts. Applicants shortlisted for interview may be considered for similar vacancies in alternative locations.


What we'll need you to bring

* The post-holder is required to have at least an Upper Second Class Honours degree in Psychology.
* They must be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartership of the British Psychological Society (GBC).
* They must hold a driving licence and have access to transport.
* They must have a high level of computer skills and knowledge of programmes and statistical packages.
* The post-holder should have had experience of relevant paid/voluntary work.

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.


Desirable/Added value

* Relevant additional training (e.g. forensic risk assessment, psychological therapies, neuropsychological testing).
* Experience of working in a prison or other forensic settings, with complex mental health presentations, substance misuse and/or offending behavior.
* Experience of delivering psychological interventions on a 1:1 or group basis (e.g. Safety and Stabilisation).
* Experience of delivering guided self-help and/or digital-based therapies.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Awareness of the limits of competence and ability to work within those boundaries.
* Ability to work in a sensitive manner with respect for diversity and a wide range of individuals.
* Able to work effectively within a team.
* Relevant skills for working in a prison mental health service.
* Ability to undertake, interpret, and report on neuropsychological assessments.


Contract type and working pattern

* Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months
* Full time
* 37 hours

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
