Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work site environment: Outdoors; at heights; underground; noisy; dangerous; dusty; hot. Work setting: Staff accommodation available; urban area; various locations; rural area; construction site.
Responsibilities / Tasks
* Load, unload and transport construction materials
* Measure weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting
* Read blueprints to determine work requirements
* Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring and barricades
* Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt
* Assist in drilling and blasting rock on construction sites
* Pave and rake asphalt
* Assist in demolishing buildings
* Clean and pile salvaged materials
* Perform routine maintenance work
* Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants
* Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites
* Direct traffic at or near construction sites
Experience and specialization
* Experience: 7 months to less than 1 year
* Construction specialization: Driveways; Industrial, commercial and institutional; Pipelines; Residential; Roads and bridges; Sidewalks and curbs; Underground and tunnel work; Water mains; Poured concrete; Irrigation and drainage; Roofing
