An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and committed Band 7 Ward Manager in the Ophthalmology Day Surgery Unit at Ysbyty Abergele.

Focusing primarily on safe and effective discharge of day case elective surgery.

We are looking for an experienced, highly motivated individual who can work with our General Surgical teams to provide high quality patient care. The role of the Ward Manager is pivotal in providing leadership and support to our nurses, while ensuring the department is managed smoothly on each shift. The quality and standard of care for patients is at the centre of this role.


Main duties of the job

All applicants are expected to keep abreast with new initiatives and interventions within nursing care. A Ward Manager is expected to drive mandatory training and other courses which are relevant to the ward.

Staff will receive induction and support through staff meeting and personal development reviews.

In general, this is an exciting and fascinating ward opportunity for professional development and expertise in the field.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* RGN with experience at band 5 level
* RGN with experience in surgical setting
* Evidence of continous professional development
* ILS
* Evidence of leadership / change module
* Evidence of degree or working towards


Knowledge and Experience

* Significant experience at Band 6
* Extensive experience in acute surgical care
* Demonstrates evidence of clinical competencies in acute medical management
* Experience of undertaking expanded roles within the speciality applied for
* Evidence of working on own initiative, managing time and prioritising
* Experience of supporting students within clinical area
* Evidence of staff management - off duty / sickness and absence
* Demonstrable experience and involvement in clinical audit methods and quality initiatives


Skills and Abilities

* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
* Evidence of excellent leadership skills
* Provide evidence of maintaining and monitoring standards which enhance patient experience of care
* Ability to influence and manage change, including promoting evidence based practice
* Ability to motivate and develop staff and change practice in line with national strategic drivers
* Excellent multidisciplinary team working skills
* Advanced clinical reasoning/problem solving
* Ability to speak Welsh
