Health, Safety & Compliance Manager – Preston

The company is a privately owned business, part of the Ballyvesey Holdings Group that has grown significantly in recent years, now providing a diverse range of Logistics Services throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.
We are now recruiting for a Health, Safety & Compliance Manager to join our team in Preston.
Responsibilities
* Ensuring that the organisation addresses health and safety issues on a day-to-day basis.
* Keeping abreast of H&S legislation/ACOPS/HSE guidance affecting the road haulage industry.
* Driving forwards and championing a health & safety culture across the group.
* Undertaking risk assessments where required.
* Developing and rolling out SOPS (standard operating procedures) where needed.
* Liaising with representatives from the enforcing authorities and our insurers.
* Reporting accidents and dangerous occurrences under RIDDOR
* Ensuring that the organisation promptly investigate accidents, identifying the root cause and appropriate preventative actions.
* Compiling a monthly accident return and submitting it to the BVH Health & Safety Manager.
* Providing health and safety training to line management and drivers alike.
* Engaging in relevant ISO standards – 45001 in particular and ensuring its implementation across the group.
* Convening and participating in regular H&S committee meetings which provide a valuable format for employees to raise H&S concerns.
* Advising line management on their health and safety obligations.
* Carrying our regular site safety inspections to identify hazards and ensuing compliance with the H&S policies and objectives.
* Liaising with the Ballyvesey Holdings Health & Safety Manager in relation to these responsibilities.
* Making customer visits where necessary to comprehend their H&S expectations and develop site specific SOPs.
Ideal Candidate
* A recognised H&S qualification – NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum.
* Previous compliance/H&S management experience in the road haulage industry.
* The ability to oversee and audit recognised industry standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
* A persuasive communicator who can interact with all levels of management.
* The ability to develop and deliver training programmes appropriate to the needs of the business.
* The ability to work autonomously, achieving agreed objectives but with limited external supervision.
* Having the confidence to deal with representatives from the enforcing agencies where the need arises.
* Willing to travel to Northern Ireland regularly when the business requires.
* Competitive salary dependent on experience
