Associate Clinical Educator Recruitment & Retention - Planned Care

The amazing Recruitment and Retention Support Team Planned Care are looking to appoint an Associate Clinical Educator to join an existing successful small team to continue to provide the superb pastoral support and care that the workers at NNUH deserve!

This post will continue to support the amazing and well-regarded service that the team has provided and developed over the last few years. We are looking for a dedicated, caring individual who can provide help, support and guidance to our Healthcare Support Workers across Planned Care.

A central part of this role will be to help educate and empower Healthcare Support Workers in progressing towards and gaining their Care Certificate and Band 3 Competency Pathway as well as being a point of contact as new HCSW's find their feet. Experience in supporting Healthcare Support Workers and knowledge of the requirements of both the Care Certificate qualification and Band 3 Pathway Competency to help support staff in gaining these would be highly beneficial.


Main duties of the job

This position is a key part of Planned Care and the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital's dedication to caring for and supporting our staff through both recruitment and retention initiatives. Your role will be working as part of a small, tight-knit team with a particular focus on retention, recruitment and pastoral care and support to HCSW's in their clinical working environment. You should be able to provide a friendly, welcoming, yet knowledge and understanding point of contact for Healthcare Support Workers across Planned Care in all specialties. You will be required to visit and assist new starters within their home wards/clinical areas and help them settle in, learn skills and work towards their Care Certificate and completion of the Band 3 Pathway Competency document. You will be required to attend recruitment events both internally and external to the NNUH, representing the Team and NNUH. The postholder will be expected to liaise and work alongside both colleagues in Unplanned Care Team and Practice and Development and Education Team.

Job responsibilities

* Under the direction of the Practice Development team provide training and coaching for a range of learners in clinical practice.
* Assist with the preparation and delivery of classroom-based teaching sessions, clinical skills training, tutorials, workshops, mock exams and conferences, using appropriate teaching styles, equipment and technology to optimise learning.
* To document any training/ support sessions/ tutorials and assessments on the progress report/Care Certificate/Practice Assessment Document (PAD) within scope of practice.
* To undertake tutorials with learners ensuring that both academic and clinical milestones of the programme are met and report issues for action to the Clinical Educator/Practice Development Nurse.
* Under the direction of the Practice Development Nurse and Clinical Educator, review effectiveness of teaching sessions based on learner feedback, latest evidence supporting practice, new teaching styles/resources and in accordance with trust policies & procedures.
* In liaison with the Clinical Educators, teach and assess learners in the delivery of essential nursing care through demonstration, utilising up to date clinical knowledge and skills. Asses and support learners with the completion of the Care Certificate.
* To be a role model to all by providing a high standard of individualised patient care in accordance with trust policies and procedures, which optimises the patients care experience and care outcome.
* To accurately and responsibly carry out instructions of the registered members of the multidisciplinary team who are professionally accountable for the delivery of care.
* To work clinically in various ward areas/departments to support the learners to achieve protected learning time.
* To report to registered professionals any cause for concern/ change in a patients clinical condition and ensure the learner understand their responsibility in reporting to members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Person Specification


Experience

* Experience in mentoring learners effectively
* Knowledge of current developments in health care


Qualifications

* Foundation Degree in Health Studies (Science)/ Assistant Practitioner / Nursing Associate / equivalent


Skills

* Ability to be an effective teacher and facilitator
* To have a strong interest in teaching, coaching supporting learners in the classroom and in clinical practice
* Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence
* Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
