Overview
This consultant post is based at Royal Cornwall Hospital (RCHT) and involves a proportional 50% commitment to pain management and 50% to anaesthesia. The role supports both acute and chronic pain care, including inpatient and outpatient services, and collaborates closely with the palliative care team.
Responsibilities
* Day‑to‑day management of the Pain and Anaesthetic departments.
* Provide surgical and procedural support, including spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps, in dedicated operating theatre sessions.
* Teach and supervise junior staff and medical students, and deliver continuing medical education (CME).
* Participate in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives, including data analysis and service development.
* Attend departmental, Trust‑wide, and governance meetings; maintain a weekly timetable and cover out‑of‑hours duties as required.
* Ensure high clinical standards in pain and anaesthesia care across the Trust’s 6,700 staff and 500,000‑person population.
Qualifications
* Full professional registration and qualification in a relevant medical specialty.
* Successful completion of identity, professional, employment history, reference, health, and criminal record checks.
* Right to work in the UK (visa arrangements are not guaranteed).
* Experience in pain management and anaesthesia is essential; experience with intrathecal therapies and spinal devices is an advantage.
