Independent visitor

Walsall (West Midlands)
Freelance
One Walsall
Posted: 10 November
Offer description

Independent Visitors are adults who volunteer with us to offer one-to-one support to children and young people who are living with a foster family or in residential care. The volunteer is separate from social services, and all other agencies and is there just for the young person.

The aim of the role is about providing the young person with the time and space to talk, feel listened too, and valued, and have some fun with their volunteer. You’ll meet with your young person once a month on a long-term basis for as long as they want an Independent Visitor. You will decide with your young person what to do but activities could include going to the cinema, bowling, or walking in the park.

Young people are typically in school during weekdays, so the monthly session takes place during a weekday evening or on a weekend.

The volunteer Independent Visitor would collect the young person from their home, take them out to complete the activity and the return them back home afterwards. We currently have young people waiting for their Independent Visitor in the Walsall area.

Other Information

A full, enhanced DBS check is required, and the organisation will pay for this.

Volunteer expenses are reimbursed, such as personal car mileage and any fees/expenditure from the session with the young person (entrance fees, refreshments, etc).

We welcome applications from volunteers who are fun, reliable, and enthusiastic. Commitment to the role is essential and we ask for at least 2 years commitment post training. Full training is provided so no previous experience is necessary. An empathetic and caring nature is beneficial.

We welcome applications from all different cultures, backgrounds and experiences who have a genuine interest in making a difference to the lives of children and young people.

Change Grow Live (CGL) is a UK-based charity that provides free and confidential support and services to individuals and families facing a range of challenges, including drug and alcohol addiction, homelessness, domestic abuse, and mental and physical wellbeing.

Their services aim to help people change their direction, grow as individuals, and live life to its full potential.
