An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive registered nurse with experience in Parkinsons or Neurology to join the Neurology team in Swansea Bay. This is a full time and permanent Band 7 post.
Dependent on your experience and with initial support of the existing band 7 Parkinson CNS team, you will over time, run and maintain nurse-led clinics independently and play a leading role in providing treatment to patients with Parkinsons.
You will be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and to make critical judgements using specialist knowledge; you will provide the highest standard of holistic patient care for patients with headache. You will have responsibility for assessing patients and subsequently devising, implementing and assessing an individual's comprehensive management plan. The post holder will need to work closely with the Parkinsons nursing team, consultant neurologists and health colleagues within primary and secondary care, social care and voluntary agencies, contributing to and implementing care for people with headache.
A background in neurology and/or neurosurgery is essential. Whilst previous Parkinsons experience is desirable, training, support and development will be provided.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be one of the lead specialist nurse for Parkinsons, joint responsible for the management and development of the specialist service and complement the role of the consultant neurologist by providing a quality service for a caseload of patients with Parkinsons.
The post holder will practice autonomously as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing strong, visible leadership to support a safe and effective, responsive clinical service for people diagnosed with Parkinsons
This patient centred service is delivered through clinics, home appointments, telephone and e-mail.
The post holder will develop and deliver a programme of practice development for staff in the Health Board, General practitioners and students focusing on Parkinsons diagnosis and management guidelines.
The post holders own practice should be developed to an advanced level, whereby they can directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the speciality.
Patients with complex needs, abnormal clinical signs, red flags or unusual features will be discussed by the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Parkinsons (CNS) with the consultant neurologist and diagnosis and management plans for the Parkinson will be jointly agreed.
