Overview
We are recruiting an Underwriter for our SME & Personal Lines team out of our Liphook office. You will be responsible for driving revenue and underwriting profit across the SME and Personal Lines division, including Pen. You will review risks and make underwriting decisions in line with established controls, appetite, and authority, ensuring disciplined portfolio management. By balancing commercial growth with prudent risk selection, you will deliver sustainable returns for capacity partners while maintaining strong broker relationships and positive customer outcomes. How you'll make an impact Underwrite and service existing accounts as well as evaluating new business by using prudent and established underwriting practices Provide brokers with excellent standard of service Determine whether to accept, modify or decline business through evaluation of the property’s value, location, usage, safety features and any other information pertinent to making an underwriting decision. Actively engaging with brokers to increase/retain books of business and premium income Carry out all duties in line with FCA regulations Ensure any breaches of FCA regulations are reported to line management About You Proven Underwriting experience within the industry Organisational Skills – Proven ability to plan and prioritise work both independently and within a team to meet targets and deadlines. Communication – Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills, applied confidently in everyday business situations. Negotiation – Skilled in negotiation and persuasion to achieve positive solutions with both internal stakeholders and external partners. Accountability & Responsibility – Takes ownership of decisions and outcomes, ensuring compliance with underwriting controls and governance. Collaboration – Works effectively with colleagues, brokers, and partners to deliver shared objectives.
