Senior Clinical Fellow - Renal (Portfolio Pathway)
Applications are invited for a Portfolio Pathway Fellow (formerly CESR) in Renal Medicine.
The post will support a motivated and committed candidate in completing the Portfolio Pathway and will be tailored to meet the requirements of the successful candidate in line with the specialty specific guidance (SSG) for achieving entry onto the Specialist Register via the Portfolio pathway.
The post is initially for a period of 2 years with extensions based on successful outcome of an ARCP.
Main duties of the job
The Portfolio Pathway (PP) Fellow will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care under consultant supervision. The primary clinical duties will include assessing and managing patients as well as responding to referrals from wards and the emergency department. They will participate in daily ward rounds, conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, and formulate management plans for patients. The role will involve active engagement in multidisciplinary team meetings, responding to emergencies, and ensuring safe and effective patient handovers. The Fellow will be supported to meet the requirements of the SSG through structured educational sessions, clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives and supported secondments should these be required.
Job responsibilities
- AKI/Renal On-call rota working with the AKI Consultant
- Delivering the procedure list under the supervision of the procedures consultant
- Assisting with ward rounds and supervising junior doctors on the wards
- Clinics as per middle grade rota
- Ad-hoc patient reviews in C6 and C8
- On-call GIM/Acute Medicine commitments
- Attending and delivering department-organised teaching
- Actively collecting evidence for PP application and presenting in annual ARCPs
- Being pro-active in getting necessary competencies signed off
- Successful candidates will be actively encouraged to participate in ongoing research activities within the department
Person Specification
GMC
- Full GMC registration (or eligible)
Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP Part 1 and 2
- Full MRCP
- ESE Nephrology
Clinical Experience
- Significant experience in Nephrology
- Evidence of continuous career progression
- Experience of working in acute internal medicine
Clinical Skills
- Demonstrate awareness and appropriate knowledge base to manage acute medical conditions
- Valid advanced life support (ALS)
Language, Personal and Behaviour Skills
- Good personal and interpersonal skills, good written and oral communication skills to manage the full range of patient and colleague interactions, positive attitude to all tasks and stakeholders
- Demonstrate commitment to completing the requirements of the Portfolio Pathway
- Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
- Able to work in multi-professional teams and supervise junior medical staff and other staff members as part of the MDT
- Demonstrate a good understanding of Portfolio Pathway
Clinical Governance
- Able to demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk management
- Evidence of clinical governance activity e.g. presentation at clinical governance meeting, involvement with incident reporting, dealing with complaints etc
