This is a fixed term appointment designed to support research and undergraduate teaching as well as supporting and gaining experience within clinical neurosciences. For successful applicants wishing to be supported in studying for a part-time Masters or Doctorate the duration of contract would be extended to reflect the length of time required for this study.
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties will include ward cover for patients in the Central England Rehabilitation Unit. Appointees will gain clinical experience of a range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions and develop skills in interdisciplinary working and management of complex cases. There will be opportunity to gain experience in outpatient and outreach settings, working from hyper acute to long-term stages of the clinical pathways. Appointees will participate in weekly educational complex case meetings covering difficult medical, ethical and psychosocial issues.
About us
The Central England Rehabilitation Unit (CERU) is the largest high-dependency inpatient acute specialist neurological rehabilitation service in the UK. Housed within the Royal Leamington Spa Rehabilitation Hospital as part of South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust, CERU has 42 acquired brain injury rehabilitation beds providing for Level-1 and Level-2 neurorehabilitation patients. The site also includes 20 Stroke rehabilitation beds and outpatient services including spasticity management, specialist wheelchair services and orthotics.

The post will include participating in CERU rehabilitation research activities. This could be contributing to recruitment and data acquisition for existing studies, or designing your own studies for research questions across a broad potential range. Suitable candidates could register for an MSc, MD or PhD. This would particularly suit candidates planning a career in rehabilitation medicine, neurology, neurosurgery, stroke medicine, trauma, neurophysiology, or neuropalliative care.
