DHL Legal Services offers all business partners worldwide solution-oriented legal advice. We provide comprehensive support in contracts, negotiations, and processes with customers and suppliers as well as in general litigation and commercial law matters.
Location
The role can be based anywhere in England. However, bi-weekly office attendance is required in Birmingham or Staines.
Job Purpose
We are looking for a Legal Counsel to support our freight forwarding and logistics businesses across the UK and Ireland. You will play a key role in identifying and mitigating legal risk, supporting commercial objectives, and providing pragmatic legal advice across a wide range of contractual, compliance, and dispute-related matters. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will help protect the business while enabling growth in a fast-paced, international environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day-to-day legal support across freight forwarding and logistics operations in the UK and Ireland
* Draft, negotiate, and manage customer, supplier, customs, and freight forwarding contracts from opportunity through to implementation
* Advise on legal risk, compliance, and governance matters in line with group policies and applicable laws
* Support commercial strategies by delivering clear, practical legal advice to business stakeholders
* Manage claims and disputes, including liaising with external counsel where required
* Support compliance initiatives, including ESG-related matters and due diligence requests
* Collaborate with internal teams including commercial, finance, credit, customs, risk, and compliance
* Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of legal processes and procedures
Your Profile
* Qualified lawyer with 2–5 years’ post-qualification experience
* Strong grounding in English contract law; experience across multiple jurisdictions is an advantage
* Knowledge of freight forwarding, transport, logistics, or customs law is highly desirable
* Commercially minded, with the ability to balance legal risk and business priorities
* Comfortable working independently and managing a varied workload to tight deadlines
* Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
* Pragmatic, solution-focused, and able to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
