We are inviting applications from experienced, motivated and enthusiastic candidates to join our exceptional team within Laboratory Medicine at the Bristol Royal Infirmary site. You will work closely with Biomedical Scientists, Healthcare Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants and other Associate Practitioners and apply your knowledge by performing a range of automated, semi-automated and manual techniques.
The post holder will be a night shift worker supporting the Automated Biochemistry section under the supervision of the rostered Night BMS.
The working pattern in this role is rota based. Therefore your contracted hours of 37.5 per week (full time working equivalent) will be calculated across a rota period of 13 weeks in accordance with agenda for change. Dependant on the needs of the service, your total working hours will fluctuate due to the different length of time of the shifts, however as part of rota management your shifts will balance to be within your contracted time.
Main duties of the job
* To participate in night shifts, providing Clinical Biochemistry services to the Trust
* To organise personal workload in response to the urgency and volume of requests.
* To maintain equipment and work space in a clean and functional condition.
* To follow protocols for performing a wide range of pre-analytical laboratory procedures as directed by the night BMS.
* To perform a range of laboratory maintenance procedures as directed by the night BMS.
* To perform analytical quality control procedures and ensure that any analytical procedures and or equipment not conforming to quality specifications are brought to the attention of the night BMS.
* To follow protocols to perform a range of analytical testing as directed by the night BMS.
* To liaise with night Medical Laboratory Assistants to ensure the smooth and efficient workflow of samples into the laboratory
* Support specimen reception pre analytics when required or as by directed by the Night BMS
* Take part in the roster system for Clinical Biochemistry Automation, including in-touch days as required
* To establish, maintain and increase their knowledge, skills and competency. This includes maintaining a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio, providing evidence of participation in learning and development activities.
