Summary
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee the commercial and contractual management of our demolition and enabling works projects from inception to final account. Working closely with project teams and support functions, you'll build strong relationships with clients and our supply chain to ensure successful commercial outcomes. This is a key role where your expertise will directly influence project performance, profitability, and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
* Prepare applications for payment, including valuation of variations and loss/expense claims
* Agree interim payment amounts with clients and monitor payment notices
* Collaborate with Contracts Managers and the Operations Director to prepare project budgets
* Manage monthly cost/value reconciliations (CVRs) and reporting
* Monitor budgets against actual costs and projections
* Send subcontractor enquiries, analyse quotations, place orders, and manage interim payments and final accounts
* Assist in the preparation of tenders
* Ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled
* Advise Contracts Managers on commercial matters including variations and delays
* Conduct site visits to identify and record commercial risks and opportunities
* Lead and motivate teams, providing clear expectations and performance feedback
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients
* Produce concise monthly commercial reports reflecting contractual performance, risks, and opportunities
Qualifications
* A degree in Quantity Surveying or a professional qualification (MRICS or MCIOB)
* Strong commercial awareness and the ability to clearly communicate financial and contractual matters
* Solid understanding of JCT Standard Forms of Contract and similar frameworks
* Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach, with the ability to perform under pressure
* Proficiency in MS Office and experience using finance and project management systems
* Previous experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant QS role, ideally within the demolition or enabling works sectors
* Proven experience in subcontractor procurement and order placement
