About the Role

Are you looking for an opportunity to support students to make effective progress and achieve their ambitions? Working with the curriculum to focus on those facing barriers to learning, you can mentor and support student success, promote student resilience and independence through target setting and monitoring.


Responsibilities

* Develop the skills of students who are disengaging following referrals from tutors. Liaise with relevant specialist colleagues to create, coordinate and implement a support plan for identified students with clear targets.
* Maintain own caseload of supported students, creating detailed records of cases and student outcomes in order to contribute to monitoring and evaluation, using statistical and qualitative data.
* Deliver a triage service for students and referring staff, correctly signposting students in need to appropriate in-house and external support provision.
* Deliver targeted support interventions, including making referrals for students with physical/mental health issues and liaising with parents/carers as appropriate.
* Work with teaching colleagues and other staff to find ways to support referred students within and outside the classroom, including organising case conferences and attending disciplinary meetings as required.
* Pro-actively identify trends in student progress, especially in relation to well‑being, behaviour and expectations, and address these through targeted interventions and support provision.


Requirements

* English and maths to at least level 2.
* Designated Safeguarding Lead (or willing to obtain).
* Youth work qualification or Nursing qualification or Public Health qualification or Health & Wellbeing qualification or teaching qualification.
* First Aid Qualification or willingness to obtain.
* Understanding of the barriers to learning faced by students including the growing support required for mental health.
* Working knowledge of external support agencies and stakeholders.

*If you are recruited as an unqualified lecturer, you must enrol on the PGCE/Cert Ed within your first two years of employment. You are also enrolled on the fully funded Level 3 Award in Education & Training (formerly known as PTLLS) shortly after you start with us, so your formal teacher training starts straight away.
