Senior Buyer – Future Purchasing Manager
ATA Recruitment are representing a leading UK-based engineering and manufacturing business who are seeking a Senior Buyer to join its dynamic team in Worcestershire. With clear pathway to becoming a Purchasing Manager within 12 months.

This well-established and rapidly growing company is a key player in the design and manufacture of heat exchangers and thermal solutions for a wide range of industries, including defence, automotive, power generation, and industrial sectors. With a strong international presence and a reputation for engineering excellence, the business is undergoing a major transformation, including the implementation of a new ERP system and a strategic focus on supply chain optimisation.
Operating across a global supply base—including China, Germany, Turkey, and Canada—the company manages an annual procurement spend of £4–5 million. It is committed to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence, making it an exciting environment for ambitious professionals.
The Role: Senior Buyer
As Senior Buyer, you will take ownership of both direct and indirect procurement activities, supporting production and new product development. You will lead supplier negotiations, manage vendor relationships, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives with a current annual target of £500k.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and is eager to step into a Purchasing Manager position. You’ll be instrumental in shaping procurement strategy, supporting ERP implementation, and driving supplier performance improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Manage global sourcing and supplier negotiations across multiple regions.
Develop and maintain the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and preferred supplier agreements.
Collaborate with engineering, quality, finance, and planning teams on new projects.
Support the transition to a new Epicor ERP system, streamlining procurement processes.
Ensure compliance with MOD and sustainability standards.
Travel internationally as required (including China and Europe).
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience as a Senior Buyer in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Strong commercial negotiation skills and global sourcing experience.
ERP/MRP system knowledge (Epicor a plus).
High computer literacy, especially in Excel and procurement tools.
A proactive, strategic thinker with excellent stakeholder management skills.
